What to make of this?

I was sleeping the other night in my sons room (while he was in my bed with my husband) I woke up sometime between 2-3 when I felt 2 nudges on my legs. I opened my eyes to see what I thought was my son standing at the foot of the bed holding his pillow. I told him to come in and he just stood there. Then he ran into the living room area. I turned on the lights and went to the living room to get him and send him back to bed. When I got out there, he was no where. Wondering where he went I looked around.. only to find him soundly sleeping in bed with his Dad. I am at a loss here.. I was awake and not dreaming.. But he was sleeping.. I am nervous about asking this question, I dont want to hear anything that is going to scare me, as far as my son goes. He has seen his old cat (after it ped) it was always under his bed.. and he was scared of it, he use to see her nightly and now it is every once in awhile.. He has since feared sleeping in his room and wants the lights on.
