I want a newer laptop from my dad?

I really want a new computer because the one i have is already starting to malfunction, I currently own an HP Pavilion dv2000, a little obsolete being a 2008 model, i was never even a fan of HP. Now it gets slow, hibernates randomly (no it does not overheat) it had very low battery life until i got a new one, and now I'm just sick and tired of putting up with it. I asked my dad for a new one but he keeps telling me that the one i have is perfectly fine, i am not asking for much, i just want a dell inspiron mini 1012 a href="http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-mini1012/pd" rel="nofollow"http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-mini10…/a you can tell that i am not asking for anything flashy by just looking at the price, i really want to get rid of this computer but i don't know how to convince him. Please help.
